I am currently considering ATP and want to secure a class date/location. I understand that there is a $3k non-refundable deposit but can it be deferred to a later class date?
I am halfway to my PPL and am anticipating completion before the start date but just in case there are delays I wanted to see if they will allow deferring the start with my initial $3k deposit.

No, class dates cannot be changed once deposits are made. My understanding is that you will not be able to secure the start date until you actually have your PPL, this is to prevent exactly what you are talking about from happening.

Also remember to get credit for your PPL you also need at least 78hrs of flight time.

I’m not sure where you’re getting the $4,000 figure, it is $2,995.
You will have to complete your PPL prior to being able to enroll for a class date.

When did the deposit price skyrocket like that? I only paid $995 for my spot last month.

The price just RECENTLY increased from $995 to 2,995 the other week.

The deposit had been $995 since at least 2003 when I signed up. While it is a large increase, it is also reflective of the increased amount of information and resources that have become available to new students over the years.
