Can you be mildly color blind and still be a commercial pilot?

I’m very interested in pursuing a career in aviation. I’m a sophomore in college and plan on finishing my degree. I have realized that being a pilot would be something I would want to do for a career. I want to know if I can still be eligible to be a commercial pilot with mild red/green color-blindness.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay,

Only an Aviation Medical Examiner can say for sure. It’s possible. You’ll have to take the test regardless. You may be required to conduct additional testing depending on your initial results. Your AME will explain what is required.

I would start a conversation with a local AME.

Will do thank you!

Jay,

It really depends on the severity of the color blindness and which colors are affected. Just because you fail the initial test does not mean that a medical cannot be issued though.
