Chances of Staring Career at 53 and DUI

Hello, I am a 53 year old civil engineer with a private pilots cert. + Instrument rating. Have 1300 hours and fly a Mooney (complex). Thinking about changing careers and becoming a professional pilot. Bad news is my age and the worst news is that I foolishly have 2 DUI’s from 28 and 32 years ago. Yes, when 19 years old and 24 years old.

I know I will never fly for the majors but what are the chances of being picked up by the Regionals at my age and two long ago DUI’s? Clean record since.

The Regionals are pretty desperate but 2 DUIs is really bad. I’m thinking IF you can get a First Class medical you might have a shot but that’s a HUGE if. I’d contact a few Regionals and ask them directly.

In all honesty I’ve participated in hiring and I would not.

Two DUIs is a lot, but they were also quite some time ago. I recommend that you call the recruiting departments of several regional airlines and ask them directly.
