Changes to ATP's Program

There have been some changes made to ATP’s program to better align wit

The most relevant changes are:

  1. Extend Timeline to 9 months (Credit Private) and 12 months (Zero Time) -
  2. Crew cross country time will now be flown as dual time with an instructor
  3. No price change

The FAA Examiner shortage is the primary driver for the increase in the timeline. ATP still has the fastest track to the airlines. The cross country phase becoming dual time with an instructor will be a benefit to students as many will benefit from the additional instruction time and this will help reduce weather driven delays.

Let us know is you have any questions.

Hi,

I’m starting my PPL phase this upcoming Monday. Since my class date was set end of July, would these changes still affect my program? Or would it affect everything after PPL? Thanks!

Raina,

I would check with either Admissions or Training Support, to verify your program structure. The other method is you could go to your training outline on the dashboard and see the program outline, in the meantime.

Raina,

I’m sure there was a cut off date for those enrolled in the previous program vs the new one. Good thing is there is no difference in the cost so it wouldn’t affect any of your loans. However, the crew phase would be with an instructor instead of another student.

Best to reach out to Admin or the Training support specialist at your location to clarify!

You will receive the program you sign up for when you place your deposit and schedule a confirmed start date. Your deposit locks in a snapshot of the program at the time you schedule.

Those who have been working through steps to enrollment can still schedule on or before August 16 with a start date no later than September 16 to receive the “old” program.

Again, the key differences are:

  • Crew-style cross-country stage replaced with more dual instruction during instrument and commercial stages. While the crew stage was often an enjoyable time in the program, many students will benefit from more dual instruction.
  • No MEI. DPE availability is extremely limited nationwide, and the DPEs with this authorization are even more scarce. Add to it that most graduates do not use the MEI, and that it presents even the most remote potential for a checkride failure that could be a negative in any future interview/eligibility. There are always options to attain it later.
  • Still 25 Hours Multi. This is essential for meeting Airline Transport Pilot Certificate minimums. It can be very hard to get this time experience by piecemealing it together.

Did the cost increase some other time previously? I had a memory of the 0 time track being 89k but certainly possible I’m making that up. Been awhile since I’ve been on the forum.

Joey,

The cost of the program has gone up since then… Just an unfortunate side effect of the times we’re in right now. Gas, groceries, everything is going up!

Joey,

Inflation has affected EVERYTHING nationwide. Flight training is included in EVERYTHING.

Adam

Out of curiosity what did the program cost when you went and what year was that?

Joey,

I did the program in 2003 and I believe(?) the cost was $49,995. While that was pretty reasonable back then, in light of recent inflation it’s still a great deal.

Adam

Joey,

Just found my loan, $83,995 with all the options included, 2020.

The biggest drivers in the tuition increases are fuel costs and that instructor pay has gone up substantially. You will certainly appreciate that when you are on the instructor side of things.

Chris

That’s good to know that some of it goes back to the students when they instruct

Joey,

There are a LOT of benefits and incentives that give back to the instructors, contrary to the negative reviews and comments all over social media pages. I have yet to find another flight school that offers the amount of airline partnerships that ATP does…
