This video explains one of the first forms of ration navigation, the Four Course Radio Range. It boggles my mind to think that pilots, including my grandfathers, flew across the country with this method.

Absolutely mind-boggling!

I once had to take an RJ with the GPS MEL’d so we had to track VORs across the country. Fortunately the controllers took pity on me and gave us headings the whole day. Scary stuff! :flushed:
