Employment Background

Do airlines request full employment records from previous (non-aviation) employers? Or are they simply calling to ensure dates of employment?

Thank you,

Brady,

During the application process, it will ask for the last X number of years of employment; I believe most is 10 years of work history. It will also ask if you have any gaps of employment allowing a response and a comment/reason to why there was such gap. For example, I was “unemployed” between the time of July 2020 until I did independent contractor work for ATP, so I had a gap, but explained I was attending flight school.

Brady,

Ten full years of employment history is required for pretty much every airline you apply for. With that, they want dates, job titles, managers contact info, and reason for leaving. So if there is anything in your work history, be prepared to answer for it.

Someday my ten year work history won’t be so complicated. Providing addresses, contact information, etc for schools in China including my own on forms designed only to accept American data is a pain. I’ve always wondered how to include contact info for past managers.

That is a question of mine as well. I have past jobs that I know my former manager doesn’t work at anymore. Do they just contact the hiring department and ask for my employment record?

Brady,

It varies, typically they will contact the Human Resources Department looking for employment history; however, maybe while they have that individual on the phone they’ll ask about any documentations/letters/performance you may have.
