FAA first class medical

I am 5’4 and I currently weight 180 pounds. I would like to know if I could fail the FAA medical because of my weight? and I also would like to know for how long is the test good for? by that I mean if the test have to be taken every certain years or it’s only one time.

Mendgy,

As long as there are no medical conditions or mobility issues associated with your weight you cannot be denied a medical for weight alone (and frankly you’re not that heavy). What the AME can do if your BMI is over 30 (which yours is) is require you to test for sleep apnea which is an issue. Most don’t unless you’re dramatically over 30 so I really wouldn’t sweat it.

FAA First Class medicals are good for 1 year until you’re 40 and then for 6 mos after that.

Thank you so much Adam

Mendgy,

I’m 6’4" and 280lbs. Haven’t had any issues with medicals. If you overall health is good then you should be fine.
