Favorite plane

Here’s a fun little question. What’s your favorite plane that you’ve flown? It can be anything from GA aircraft’s or the planes you’ve flown to get to where you’re at now.

Steven,

I have flown the following:

Diamond 20, Katana
Piper Seminole
Cessna 172

Embraer 145
Boeing 737
Boeing 757
Boeing 767
Airbus 320

Of the GA airplanes, my favorite was by far the Piper Seminole. It is a wonderful training aircraft and fun to fly, plus it is bigger than the single engine airplanes.

On the airlines side, the 757 is by far the best that I have flown. This was the peak of Boeing building well designed, quality airplanes. The airplane has plenty of power, can stop quickly and does not have tail strike issues.

The strangest I have flown is the Airbus 320. Now to be fair, I only flew it 1,200 hours in five years, so I never really got used to it, but it is a strange airplane with strange computers that are not intuitive. I did find that it landed nicely and I liked the side stick, but that was about it.

Steven,

With the exception of the ScareBus (which is just a dumb airplane), I tend to get attached to whatever plane I’m flying at the time.

That said I’ve got the most hours in my current ride, the B717 and it’s def my fav. The plane is an incredibly capable workhorse with outstanding performance. My favorite aspect of the 71 is it’s a challenging plane to land smoothly. There’s no trailing link gear and what it does have are firm and set back on the fuselage. That’s not to say you can’t land it smooth, you just have to work for it!

Adam

Steven,

I like to think I’m intimate with the Embrear 145, as Adam mentioned and similarly, I’m closest to the plane I am flying. Everyone has a ritual before every flight, even if it’s the smallest thing. My thing during a walkaround is to brush my hand against the left side of the nose, almost connecting me in a sense with the plane.

When I was flying the twin and single-engines, I would become attached to those planes independently based on what I was flying at the time.

Are you feeling “the force”? :joy:

I’d say the 737 is my favorite so far! Each subsequent airplane has been an upgrade from the latter. I enjoyed flying the seminole until I got in a CJ3. I enjoyed the CRJ until I got in a 737… As much as the plane irks me sometimes, it really is a workhorse.

I’ll add to the trend of picking our current aircraft. I biasedly believe that the Embraer 175 is a better overall aircraft vs the popular narrow bodies (Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 series). I have jumpseated frequently on the Airbus and a few times on Boeing 737’s, and Embraer just made it such a simple aircraft with the ERJ series.

To me it’s a combination of the best of the Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Autothrottles that move, VNAV, automated bleed systems/pressurization, Honeywell avionics, and a somewhat proper yoke. It has great short field takeoff and landing performance, and it’s landing gear allows for some pretty soft landings. Even though it is nicknamed the ‘electrical reset jet’, for me it’s been a very reliable aircraft. With all the automation, it’s essentially a flying computer, but you can easily turn it off and fly it like a proper aircraft manually.

Yes I am biased, but I would stay on the Embraer gladly in the future if I had the opportunity to fly the 190’s or even potentially a future Embraer narrowbody. The Brazilians know what they are doing!

Roscoe,

I have never flown the EMB 175, but I will tell you that it is one of my favorite airplanes to deadhead on. It is comfortable, quiet, has a tall cabin and no middle seats. In many ways, it is the perfect airplane in the back.

Steven,

I’ve flown a couple different aircraft types and hope to fly many more!

My favorite Airliner is the 757-200. It is an absolute rocket ship! :rocket:

My favorite GA aircraft has to be my Pitts S2B! Flying upside down is way more fun than right side up :upside_down_face::wink:

Goal is to fly the Corsair! But I’m gonna need a lot more T6 time before that can happen!

I honestly just like flying and having a good time with friends. $100 hamburgers is a good way to do both haha

On the GA side, it had to have been the G1000 Seminoles (DA42 TwinStar would’ve edged it out with its performance and comfort, but had too many quirky electronics issues that made it less reliable).
On the turbine side, I like the 737-700 the most. It’s as simple and reliable as a mid-90’s pickup truck. Very sturdy, reliable and can stop on a dime. I found it harder to land softly than the -800 and the Max8, but that will come with more practice I suppose.

Toss-up between the Bonanza and the Baron.
