In 2013 I went on a hike with a Flight Attendant in Dublin. During the course of hiking the island of Howth, she mentioned that she wanted to become a pilot, but was not sure how to go about doing it. I shared with her my experience with ATP and my path to getting on at a major airline. I have not seen or spoken to her since that day.
Yesterday my FO mentioned that a friend of his had just gotten hired at United. I asked him who it was and I instantly recognized the name. It turns out that she did go to ATP, beginning in 2014. She then flew for a few charter companies and a regional airline before getting hired at mainline United. Seven years from beginning of flight training to being a pilot at a major airline is fantastic.
This person was a hard worker and a nice person, it is great to see people like that accomplish their dreams.
