I am curious, what happens when you get sick on the road? I’ve never seen this discussed before by any pilots I’ve met, and when I say sick, i’m not talking about cold or minor flu, but more along the lines of extreme fever, vomiting, etc? Do you stay at the hotel you were booked into? Fly back as soon as possible?

I have gotten very sick on the road, when this happens you simply call the company and they find a replacement for you. Sometimes this is somebody already on an overnight at the city you are at, sometimes it is a pilot that is flown in from another city and sometimes the flight is simply cancelled. The company will provide a hotel room for you until you feel better.
