Headset Issues

Good morning all!

I recently finished up my comm ASEL add on, and my Bose A20s are having issues. The battery pack is damaged from corrosion (they are very old, hand me down pair) and the repair timeline is 3-4 weeks. The problem is I leave for CFI academy in two weeks.

Are there any services that offer rentals for headsets, or does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what I should do? I could always keep the headset and do my best with no noise cancellation but I’d hate to have a crutch going to CFI.

Thanks in advance!

Zachary,

My experience with Bose service is excellent. Have you called them and asked about expedited service? If that’s not an option you could of course use them without the noise canceling. I have in the past and it really wasn’t an issue.

Hey thanks Adam, I spoke with Bose and they told me they have a heavy work load right now and gave me a minimum turn around of 3 weeks.

I put up with it through my comm SE and I was missing calls especially at higher power settings. I may just try to buy a new cord but it’s cheaper to refurbish and I think they’d put a new cord on anyway.

Thanks for the reply.

Zachary,

Check ebay, you might be able to find a cord cheap. After that, if you have some down time Id def send it in. I sent mine and they did a beautiful job refurbishing the headset. It came back like new.

Zachary,

I would send it into Bose and just find a way to deal without having one. Mine came back much quicker than they told me it would. Perhaps just buy a cheap headset in the meantime and turn the volume up.

Where you live / fly? network and you might be able to borrow a pair from someone. I have my DC PróX and my Dads Bose sitting in my GA bag which is used only once per month at most.
I’m sure you know someone who has a spare.

Zachary,

Is anyone nearby that would be able to lend you a headset for the duration of time? I wouldn’t let the noise cancellation get in the way, maybe try doing a local flight if you can without the noise cancellation and see if that works? I’ve used some older headsets without noise cancellation prior to my Bose. I’ve never had an issue with hearing.

I’m in college station but will be doing CFI at GKY. I’m calling Bose again today to see if there’s anything they can do to expedite. If not, I have a few pilots I can reach out to in the area! Thanks.

Brady,

I swear Clark’s are 100 times better than these A20s when there is no noise cancellation :joy:. I’m going to get back in touch with Bose today to see if I can pay extra or anything to have them expedited. Thanks!

Zachary,

I just switched from David Clarke’s in May  .

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I just dropped off the headset at UPS. After telling Bose customer service my situation they offered me expedited service. Thank you all for the help!
