How To Become A Commercial Pilot After High School

Luis,

Your college question is also covered in-depth in the FAQ section.

Chris

Hello,

I am international High School student but am interested in becoming a pilot in the US. Are the requirements/steps any different? In my country the Dominican Republic, I am able to study in the aviation program straight out of high school as my college degree. If I were to complete that here what other training/education would I need to become a pilot in the US? My family in the US reside in NYC.

Anne,

You need to obtain all the required FAA licenses and ratings. Please visit our FAQ section for details on the process.

Adam

Anne,

To work in the US as a pilot, you will need to either be a US citizen or a US permanent legal resident (green card).

Chris

What degree would you suggest should I get to become a pilot?

Dhruvil,

Literally ANYTHING you like and could possibly use as a backup. The airlines simply want the degree and don’t care the field of study.

Adam

Dhruvil,

Any degree or field of study will be sufficient. I recommend finding something you would enjoy doing if something in aviation would fall through. You never know when something medically or worldwide (like covid) may arise that leaves you without a flying gig. Find something you like, be happy with your choice and do well in your studies.

Brady

Any degree will be fine, as long as it is from a respected, four year college. I know pilots with degrees in everything from Business Administration to Piano Composition.
