When a major airline is reviewing your résumé, what will make you stand out? As students and instructors what can we do to set ourselves up for a successful interview at the majors, a few years down the line?
Joseph,
You’ve got some time but sure. The single most important thing you can do is networking AND not getting known as a “problem child”. This is an incredibly small industry and both good and bad travels fast. Be a solid pilot, do well in training and don’t be the guy no one wants to fly with and when it comes time you’ll get some good letters of rec which are worth a ton. Beyond that union involvement or other activities within your airline can always help. Training center or working in the Chief Pilot’s office are always good resume builders.
Adam
Joseph,
Keep a clean record in every way, don’t make a negative name for yourself, build flight time and hopefully upgrade at a regional and be involved in the community. Training center experience is always a plus. Just keep in mind that anybody you meet might have the potential to someday help or hurt your career, you never know who you might be talking to.
