Hypertropia

I went to my AME for my 1st class medical, apparently I failed even with having a 20/15 vision. I had PRK and my eye doctor and my AME both said my vision was 20/15. I failed because apparently my hypertropia is at a 3 and my AME said it needed to be at a 1 or less. My eye doctor said the only way to correct this was with PRISM glasses but because I have 20/15 I don’t qualify for glasses. Has anyone had this issue, what should I do to get this solution resolved? Is my AME wrong about the hypertropia requirements?

Daniel,

None of us are Drs and the AMEs are the experts. The actual verbage from the FAA says the following:
First- and Second-class: If an applicant exceeds the heterophoria standards (1 prism diopter of hyperphoria, 6 prism diopters of esophoria, or 6 prism diopters of exophoria), but shows no evidence of diplopia or serious eye pathology and all other aspects of the examination are favorable, the Examiner should not withhold or deny the medical certificate. The applicant should be advised that the FAA may require further examination by a qualified eye specialist.

Whether or not that’s your case we obviously could not say? I would contact AMAS https://www.aviationmedicine.com/

I would also see a different eye doctor. I am pretty sure you cvanhave prisms while still having good vision.
