What are the chances of making it to Legacy airlines, without a military background?
Someone told me that they only hire ex military.

Whoever that someone was is very ill informed. If the Legacy’s only hired military pilots frankly they’d have to shut down. There simply aren’t that many military pilots out there and every year there’s less. The fact is the vast majority of airline pilots (including Legacy carriers) come from the civilian population.
As to what are your chances of getting to one you need to understand the Legacy airlines are the big leagues and it takes a lot of hard work to get there, but it can be done.
