Major Airline Application

What can I do to set myself apart from other applicants for the major airlines? I have learned that being a check airman and having volunteer experiences help out. I am about to start volunteering at my local hospital, will that be very helpful in an application for the majors?

Thank you

Being a check airman and volunteering are great ways to set yourself apart from others. However, the big item is Captain jet time and plenty of it. After all, the majors are not hiring volunteers, they are hiring pilots.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you never know who you are talking to and how they might be willing to help you, so always keep it professional and courteous.

Networking is one of the best things you can. The old saying it’s not what you know it’s who. As for the volunteering, while doing so for a hospital is kind it won’t help you get to a Major. When people speak of volunteering in this context they mean union work and other airline related activities.
