Regionals to Majors

Hey there,

When choosing your regional airline, are you pretty much sticking with the airline it is owned by for the rest of your career? For example, if you work for one of Delta’s regional airlines, what are the odds you land a job in the majors with United or American? Are a majority of their hires typically from their own regional airlines?

The short answer is no. While many people will choose a Regional based on its parent Major or affiliation, there’s no requirement to advance to that Major. While many will offer preferential hiring, interviews or flows, often pilots will go elsewhere.

No, you are by no means locked into the parent company. That being said, as the flow through programs and cadet program grow in size, we are seeing more people flow up to their respective majors through those means.
