Skywest Interview

Good evening everyone!

I’m excited that I have my first interview on March 8th at 9 A.M with Skywest. I was just seeing if anyone had interviewed lately with Skywest and just any tips in general going to this interview? I’m excited and nervous with this being my first interview with an airline and appreciate any help!

Thanks y’all!

Kyle,

Did you receive a prep packet/handout with study topics? If you’re a cadet, did you sign up for the prep course? That’s the two best things to make sure you are well prepared for the technical portion. Be sure to be confident in part 121 regs (when you need an alternate, derived alternates mins, Exemption 17347, takeoff alternatives, etc). Those topics separate the good interviews from the great ones.

For the HR portion, the most important thing is that you’re honest and transparent. If they ask about a weakness, give them one. If they ask about a failure or a mistake, give them one. Don’t act like you don’t have one because we’re all human. We do, acting like you don’t makes you seem untrustworthy. They are just looking to see if you’re able to self critique because great pilots are always learning, always growing.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Kyle,

Congratulations on your SkyWest interview this coming month!

I’m not sure the sample size, but there should be some resources from the career services at ATP you could follow up to them with. I know as I had interviewed and graduated, they were reaching out with their new program to gather interview tips/tricks for specific airlines.

Take every interview with a willing to learn from and take bits and pieces to always improve. When I walked out of an interview on the return flight home, I would jot notes down of things I did good and bad, which helped later on future interviews.

Not sure if this website would help, https://www.aviationinterviews.com (you do have to pay for a monthly subscription).

Yes I received the study materials and having been using that to see what I needed to study.

I am a Skywest cadet but I’ve had some trouble with setting up the interview prep. I contacted Skywest and they said it should come up on my cadet dashboard to be able to set up the interview prep but it hasn’t yet and I think it’s because I applied through airlineapps.com instead of through their portal.

Thank you for tips sir! I actually just signed up for that the other day and it seems like they have a pretty good amount of information about what to expect for the interview. I will also reference the ATP information about Skywest interviews. Thank you!

Just giving an update! I ended up getting a CJO with Skywest! Thank y’all for all the help and tips throughout my training. No class date yet but they are supposed to get back to me soon once they figure out training dates because I still have to do my ATP/CTP and I’ll reach my ATP minimums beginning of May. I chose the CRJ because of class date availability. They said most likely early to mid summer for CRJ class dates. If I would have picked the ERJ class dates were not until the fall. I’ll keep y’all updated as I get more information but again just wanted to say thank you again to all of y’all for the support.

Kyle,

Sorry I’m late to the congratulations party! My CA pair from training is a former CRJ pilot, he always talks about it, enjoy it!

Good afternoon everyone,

I ended up getting a class date for Skywest for CRJ and wanted to post my timeline so it will help anyone’s else out wondering timelines!

January 2023: joined Skywest Pilot pathway program

March 2023: interviewed with Skywest then received a CJO a week later after interview.

May 2023: reached my ATP minimums then received my class date.

I deferred my ATP-CTP during the program so my ATP-CTP is June 2nd, 2023.

Then class date for Skywest is June 12th, 2023 for the CRJ in Salt Lake City! I’m very excited about starting and I’ll keep y’all updated as I go through the process!

Any idea how junior Denver and Colorado Springs bases are?

If you go to Skywest’s home page and look at the seniority they usually keep it updated regularly! Here is the link, hope this helps!

Kyle,

Nice work on getting your hours! You have some time between now and the ATP-CTP course you can relax and start preparing for the ATP written.

Goodluck in training, I look forward to seeing some updates.
