The future of the economy

Are there any sings of the economy slowing down within the next couple years? Most people I hear, either on the news or in person said no, but there are a few who said yes.

I know you guys aren’t economists, but have you heard anything about the economy taking a little dip in the near future? I’d like to take some precautions. I probably won’t be eligible to fly for a regional for at least another 11 months. I don’t want to get hired and then get laid off after a year because of a crappy economy. What do you think?

Erik,

I think it’s safe to say NOBODY wants to get laid off EVER. I’m definitely not an economist and even if I was I’m not sure any of them can predict the future. What I can tell you is I’ve been alive long enough to know the economy is cyclic and inevitably will slow down (always does). This country’s gone through depressions and recessions, Wall St crashes, oil crisis and of course acts of terrorism. Could be 10min, 10 days, 10 months or 10 years, who knows?

As for what I think (and I’m not trying to be overly philosophical) I believe if you spend your life worrying about what bad might happen you’ll miss out on a whole lot of good and before you know it you’ll be old spending all your time wondering what if?

Erik,

As you said, none of us are economists. The stock market is up and there does not seem to be any imminent signs of issues in the aviation industry. However, anything is a possibility.

Either way though, there are significant retirements forecast for the industry, which should help mitigate any negative economic affects.
