Gratz! I’m envious right now as I have just started my last 2, 400 level university classes and won’t be starting ATP til May I’d much rather be there than here
Hey everyone! I just wanted to give a quick update on my journey.
After graduating from ATP, I secured an instructing job in the Austin, TX area and eventually moved my family down to Texas after my wife (a teacher) finished her school year. I started with the company in June of 2019, and last week I finally eclipsed the 1,500 hour mark - a little over a year and a half after finishing ATP, and after only 13.5 months of instructing.
Up until this point, my eventual seniority number has been at the top of my mind - so I’ve worked long hours, taking only 1 day off per week at most, and flying as much as I could in order to get on that seniority list ASAP.
Of course, with CV19 - that 1500 hour mark no longer comes gift wrapped with a training class at an airline. I was on track to start with Republic this month, but that is obviously being put on hold for the time being. In the meantime, my next goal is to earn my Gold Seal. I need two more check ride passes from my students before becoming eligible. While things aren’t all unicorns and rainbows for the industry, I am confident we will see a rebound.
Additionally, I have been very fortunate to be with the company I’m with - which has allowed some long term financial security, and my wife and I are closing on a house at the end of this month.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been over a year and a half since I finished up at ATP. I remember vividly the nerves, anxiety, and insecurities I had about starting. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Jumping into the deep end with ATP was a life changing decision that I am so grateful for.
Thanks again to everyone who has participated in this thread - including the mentors and those of you who offered words of encouragement.
What a ride!
Also, this “Covid-19 beard” I’ve got is top notch. Guess I’ll continue to let it grow for a while.
Peter,
Glad you’re doing ok. Def interesting time were living in but it will come back. Hang in there.
Adam
Peter,
I am glad you are doing well. Thanks for updating us and stay safe out there!
Chris
Well, well, well boys (this is an inclusive term, I promise)…
I am no longer an active flight instructor as of yesterday at 6:00pm, 2,200 flight hours, and a Gold Seal later. CTP course starts today. Indoc on August 3rd. I do not think I could accurately begin to describe what a relief this is to finally be moving forward and how dang excited I am for this.
Beard update: RIP
Peter,
Congratulations! It has been a pleasure to read your adventure and journey over the last (almost) two years that I have been an active member of the forum. Wishing you all the best in your airline endeavors, hope to see you checking in after a few to let us know how things are going.
Brady
Congrats and kudos Peter!
Adam
Peter,
Congratulations! Thank you for the update. Are you starting with Republic or somebody else?
Chris
Thanks, Brady. I’ll try to post some updates through training. Really looking forward to getting started.
Thank you, Adam!
Thank you, Chris! Yes, sticking with Republic. They were the first to call, and I’m a big fan of the all E170/175 fleet.
Peter! It’s good to hear from you! Congrats!
Tory
Congrats, man! Go get ‘em!
Peter congrats!
Definitely a long time coming but worth the wait! Enjoy ATP CTP and learn from it what you can… don’t worry about the rest. You’ll learn what you need to know at republic training.

I passed my LOE last night! Officially an Airline Transport Pilot, with type ratings in the E170 & E190.
What a wild ride so far! The training footprint was AQP & completed almost exactly 2 months after showing up for Indoc. Top notch experience, and I believe the pace of ATP’s program helped prepare me for the real deal.
I mentioned it in a different thread, but my sim partner struggled throughout training - with most of his previous experience being VFR flying only, & no instructor ratings. A lot of people come here and ask about the best way to build time - and I will emphatically agree with the mentors here that flight instructing, especially as a CFII, is the way to go.
I’m really looking forward to being on the line & learning so much more. Thank you again to the entire group here. You guys have have been wonderful!
You go boy!!!
MAJOR MAJOR KUDOS Peter!
It’s been a pleasure watching your do through the process. I’m sure it’s been a wild ride but now comes the really fun part. I honestly miss my time at the Regionals. Enjoy it all!
Adam
Peter,
Congratulations! You made it! Nothing quite like the initial 121 training experience. I hope you have some time at home to rest and relax before IOE!
-Hannah
Thank you, Adam! Looking forward to it!
Thanks, Hannah! Looks like I’ll have a couple weeks to relax before starting OE. Whew!
