Aloha to all! I'm currently an Airbus 330 First Officer with Hawaiian Airlines. I've been with Hawaiian since 2013 and started on the Boeing 717 flying Interisland (the GREATEST GIG IN AVIATION!). Prior to a Hawaiian I was at ExpressJet for almost 10 years. During my tenure at ExpressJet I was a Capt and an Instructor on the EMB145, flying the continental US, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. Aviation is actually a second (or maybe 3rd?) career for me. While I dreamed of flying as a child, growing up in the Bronx with somewhat modest means it just wasn't realistic (rockstar seemed much more doable!). I did the Corp America thing for a few years and earned my Private Pilot's license in my 20s, but never did anything with it. Somewhat successful restaurateur came next but I still wasn't happy. Call it a midlife crisis or whatever but at 39 I decided life is short etc and needed to be happy, challenge myself bla bla bla. I signed up with ATP to get the rest of my licenses and ratings with the goal of making aviation a significant part of my life. I never actually believed I could/would be an airline pilot (I was thinking instructor, maybe some charter?). I was too old and was never in the military. The folks at ATP said that it was in fact more than a possibility (I thought it was part of the sales pitch). I instructed for a few months and gave my resume to ATP. They forwarded it with some kind words to ExpressJet Airlines and 10 days later I was invited to IAH for an interview. The rest is history. I LOVE MY JOB and consider myself beyond fortunate. I get paid to fly a REALLY nice airplane with my friends and home is now Hawaii which is a REALLY nice place to call home! There were MANY people who helped me get here (most notably the folks at ATP. Relax, I'm not a salesman and this is not a pitch, but the truth is the truth). I'm here hoping to pay it forward (or back? Not really sure how that works?). Please feel free to ask me anything and everything and I promise to answer honestly. If I don't know I have some REALLY smart friends who might? Hope to make some new friends here soon! Mahalo!
