ATP Flight School Path

Hi there how are you? I am creating this topic because I would like to ask a question on how you can gain college credits attending ATP Flight School and using them to your advantage.

I am currently a 12th grade student in high school and have plans to one day be a captain at a major airline. There are many paths to go about this carrier. Recently I have started to browse the ATP Flight School website and have seen that you could use your ratings and turn them into college credits. ATP requires you to have a two year degree with a college before attending their flight school. So let’s say I go to a college for two years right after high school and then attend ATP Flight School, I was wondering if I could use the college credits I gain being trained at ATP Flight school and use them to finish my next 2 years of college to complete my bachelors degree. Would that be possible? If not how much of the next two years would those college credits cover? Would this be a good path towards the majors? If not what do you recommend?

Thomas,

Yes it would be possible and it’s not a bad idea and yes it’s not a bad path to take. While we generally recommend people complete their 4yr degree first, that route isn’t for everyone. As far how many credits you’ll be given that really depends on the school and the degree program. From what I understand it can be a much as a year’s worth but again you’d have to contact the school’s you’re interested in (if you’re not sure simply Google Online Aviation Degree programs for some ideas).

Another alternative would be ATPs new FlexTrack program which would allow you to go to college and ATP concurrently. While it takes longer it is another option.
