Im trying to decide what would be the most beneficial for me to keep training at my local air port or go to ATP I am currently training for a PPL but after that would like to continue my education. The end goal would be to work for a big company like Delta, American or United. I currently have a two year degree, I am 26.
Andrew,
That’s obviously your decision. Are you happy with your local flight school? Are you progressing at a good pace? Do they have the resources for you to continue and earn all the required licenses and rating?
These are some things to consider. If you’re thinking they’re not and you’ll eventually need to go to ATP then the question becomes what are you waiting for?

Hey Adam thanks for the response Im very happy with the school and I am progressing at a good pace. I guess what i’m wondering is would I have a better chance at getting a job going threw ATP because they are well known and have connections with airlines? The local air port is 10min from my house compared to the 2hrs I would have to drive to get to ATP. Ive heard mixed reviews some people say its the same license in the end so it doesn’t matter.
Andrew,
In all honesty in today’s hiring environment it doesn’t make a difference. Back before the pilot shortage when the Regionals were much more selective ATP grads were getting hired when no one else was and were getting preferential interviews. That is a testament to the quality of ATPs program. These days the Regionals are desperate and really don’t care how or where you did your training.
That all said things can and do change so there are no guarantees. Also keep in mind you will need to build time after you’re done training. ATPs guaranteed instructor job is another nice perk.
Adam
Andrew,
If you like where you’re at then why move? Could you please tell us what you mean by “progressing at a good pace?” Where are you at in your PPL training, and how long do you expect it will take for you to earn your PPL? And how long do you expect it to take for you to become a CFI at your school?
