Entry pay and timelines

Adam,

Does a 4+ year degree help even if it is not an aviation related degree? I would expect an aviation degree to carry more weight, but do other degrees carry any weight beyond showing you can commit to medium to long term goals?

Cesar,

Absolutely and that’s really the only reason for they want it. Literally does not matter the field of study.

César,

Any degree will work. That’s why we all recommend finding a degree/field that you would enjoy as a backup if something aviation related fell through.

Hi Hannah,

With those timeframes at the regionals, how does it play into the ones offering larger bonus/reimburse through ATP - specifically Air Wisconsin and Endeavor. If they are paying that money after years 1 and 2 as captain of regional, are you not able to move to a Legacy until that reimbursement runs its course or is it a you aren’t getting the 3rd installment, so no 30k but congrats on the promotion type of thing?

Greg,

Hannah will chime in but yes that’s the deal. Many of the bonuses aren’t just hiring bonuses, they’re retention bonuses and yes you need to stay to collect the full amount.

There’s been a rash of pilots jumping ship and getting sued by the Regionals. The pilot shortage has created some great opportunities to recoup training costs etc but most have strings and the agreements you sign will be enforced.

Greg,

You have to really read the fine print… the tuition reimbursement programs are monthly payments to help cover the cost of your loan until reaching 1500 hours. In exchange you agree to fly for that regional at the completion of your hours.

Signing bonuses are more like retention bonuses… those absolutely have strings attached. You take them and ride out the contracted time or you deny the money in the first place or pay it back and progress in your career when the time comes.
