Airline Career

Hey, is it possible when finishing the 1500 hour mark to skip regionals airlines and make it directly to the mayor airlines or is it a requirement to pass through regionals. If no, how much time do you think does it takes from regionals to mayor. Thanks

Juan,

This is a very common question and the short answer is yes it is possible BUT very highly unlikely. 1500hrs is the required flight time to obtain your ATP and also meets the min flight time for most Majors. Here’s the problem, if you owned a Major airline would you rather hire a relatively new pilot with 1500hrs of flight instructor time (or any other method) and limited experience OR one of the hundreds of applicants who are current Regional Capts with thousands of hours and years of experience working for an airline? Kind of an easy choice no?

As for how much time the min seems to be 3-4yrs, the average 5-7, for some it’s never.

Juan,

In theory it is possible, but in reality it is not going to happen. Period. The majors want to higher experienced airline pilots and there are enough people competing for those jobs that they have no reason to not do so.

I would agree with Adam on an average of 5-7 years to a major, but there are certainly no promises on this.
