Do you need a college degrees or college credits before ATP’s flight training?

Hey, My name is Darian, I’m 37 years old and I’ve doing a bit of research about different flight training’s, flight academies, and flight schools throughout the U.S… I’ve noticed that quite a few training programs prerequisites require a college degree or college credits preferably in aviation. My question is, is it possible to get accepted in to ATP’s flight training without any previous college?

Any and all information related to this subject would be helpful. Even if it’s partially related would be useful. I have only 15 college credits from several years ago. I want to start from zero time and work my way up and would like to know if that is at all possible without college?

Darian,

If starting the program from zero, the prerequisites listed on ATP’s website states that applicants need to meet at least one of the following:

  • 60 college credits, or

  • equivalent work experience, or

  • military experience, or

  • some other exception approved by ATP

So, no. No college required so long as you meet at least one of the other requirements listed above.

Also, only aviation universities require that the degree be aviation related. The major airlines will accept a degree in any field.

Tory,
Would working at DHL on the ramp as a load planner count as work experience? I worked at DHL for a little over 3 1/2 years and spent over 2 1/2 years working on the ramp.

Darian,

I don’t get to decide what qualifies and what doesn’t. I just advise. Give ATP a call. They’re open until 9PM ET. 904-595-7950
