Exam order to take

Hi mentors and graduates, so I have basically decided and convinced my parents that going to ATP is the best choice for me for my aviation career in the future. I have taken some introductory flights and absolutely loved it. I am currently 20 (almost 21) and starting my last year for university this fall (Mcgill) and I am planning on attending ATP (Phoenix) maybe around August for next year. I know this is really early, but I’m really motivated and would like to start preparing for my written exams now so I could take them all next summer before starting ATP. I was wondering if you guys could give me some insights for what exams to take together and what first, and what softwares are best for studying for these exams. Thanks!

Dom,

Brady (bless his little heart) took some quality time to create the quintessential guide to taking the FAA written exams. Just be aware the flight portions for the corresponding exams must be completed with 24mos or they expire so don’t take them too early.

Thanks, this was really helpful!

Dominique,

I recommend waiting until you’re about 6 months from start date at ATP to start any writtens. As Adam said in short summary of the FAQ, your written results expire 24 calendar months after the result date. There is a thing called “too soon” on taking the written exams.

Dominique,

As for the order, theoretically you could take them however you want. However, the PAR is typically done first. Then you can go to the CAX (commercial and private share similar topics) then move on to the IRA & FII (these share question banks).
