I’m looking at starting training in a few months and I’m wondering if what you get for your housing cost in the Sallie Mae loan enough to be able to afford the student housing, and being able to afford food, and using public transit in the Alanta area as that’s where I’m looking at going as there are no training centers near where I’m at.
Robert,
That’s hard to say as we really don’t know your budget, bills or spending habits. Are you good living on the cheap or do you eat out alot etc? The finance page allows you to put in for a variety of items that will increase the amount of the loan.
Also I have to say public transportation is going to be tough. You will have early and late days and times when you’ll need to get to the airport fast. I strongly recommend bringing your car to training.

The only bill I really have is my phone bill for $50 a month, and I can easily survive off around $50 to $60 a week for food. The main reason I’m wondering about public transit is that I currently don’t have a car, and can’t afford to get one.
Robert,
If that’s the case Salie Mae’s estimated numbers should be fine. I’d really be more concerned with the transportation. If a car isn’t an option I highly recommend you contact ATP admin and even the location you’re considering before you commit to anything. Some GA airports don’t have good public transportation options and you could end up spending a fortune on Ubers. Definitely could be an issue.

That’s what I figured, and I haven’t set anything in stone yet with where I want to, but I’ve been making sure to check the areas public transit system before adding it to my list of places to consider.
Robert,
I can tell you that relying on public transit simply will not work. Except for in major cities, public transit is erratic and incredibly time consuming. You will sometimes have very early or late times at the airport, you really need a car.
