I have a question about bases, do i get to choose my base at the regional airlines and major or they will assign it me? And what if I only wish to fly from where I live and not commute is that an option?
Seif,
EVERYTHING at the airlines is based on seniority. Schedule, aircraft, days off, vacation and yes bases. When you first start you can preference your base and if there are a) available slots and b) you’re senior enough in your class you’ll get it. If not you won’t. Airlines allow base trades when slots open but how and when depend on the airline. Further when you move to a Major from a Regional the process starts again. How quickly you can get to the base of your choice often depends on how senior that base is.
When I first started at a Regional years ago EWR was a very junior base. No one wanted to be anywhere near NY but fortunately for me that’s where home was. I was immediately awarded EWR and stayed there my entire time at the airline.
If you never want to commute you need to be living near a hub, get hired by the airline whose hub that is and pray that hub isn’t too senior.
Adam
Thank you Adam!
Is Miami a good hub to live at?
Seif,
It is if you want to fly for Envoy/American.
Again keep in mind you might have to wait to be based there as I believe it’s somewhat senior but that can change.
Adam
Thank you a lot Adam I appreciate it!
