Airline Bases

When you start for a new official airline (Not Express) your seniority will be one of the lowest right because you are new? If so, does the airline chose the base you will live/stay at or will you? If the airline does chose it for you how long would it have to live there before you have enough senority to live at the base you would want?
(How long does it take to chose your base after the airline chooses it for you (IF THEY DO), and what are the percent change of being able to live in the base that you chose?)

Orlando,

First I’m not sure what you mean by “official airline” (Not Express) but I’ll assume you mean a Major vs a Regional? Regardless the answer is the same. It depends.

When you’re new the airline may be hiring into multiple bases in which case you would bid for what you want based on your seniority within your newhire class (this is most commonly based on either your age or your SS#). Assuming you don’t get the base you want different airlines will have bids throughout the year allowing you to try again. If there’s a vacancy AND you’re seniority will hold it you can trade bases. This could take a few months, many months or even years depending on movement in the airline and just how senior that base is.
