Pilot Scheduling

I enjoy the monthly posts of pilots posting their schedules for the prior month.

Question… working for a regional or legacy, is it possible (with sufficient seniority) to make a schedule where you fly every day for 3 weeks and take your 12-15 days off all consecutively? Or is that something that regulations or scheduling realities wouldn’t allow?

Scott,

It really is not possible to make a schedule like that due to regulations, nor would it be a good idea. Flying can be fatiguing and you really need a few days off here and there to recover. Under the old rules I once flew 19 days straight. It was very tiring and I certainly was not at my best.

Scott,
That schedule is exactly what is available at my company on the Part 135 side of things. It’s 15 days on, then 13 off. So you work the first two weeks of the month and off the last two. Just something to keep in mind, there are lots of different schedules and lifestyles in the aviation industry to explore!

Scott,

That’s something I actually do fairly often on Resv. 12 off/18 on. Now Chris is absolutely correct, the regs don’t allow you to work 18days straights so the company is forced to give you extra days off (at least 2) during that run.

Adam

Many airlines would prohibit 18 days straight of reserve. We are limited to 6 in a row.

As stated above, a lot of our rest regulations don’t allow for working that much in a row, BUT - I often have 1-2 weeks off at a time. That part is easy and very possible. Our trips are very efficient and if you load up the front or back end of your schedule, you can really make it whatever you want (seniority considered).
