Hi, if a pilot has a 4 day short call reserve schedule followed by several days off - how does it work if he/she gets called on the fourth day of being on reserve? Does that mean the Pilot wouldn’t be able to work an overnight trip since technically the next day is off (unless the pilot chooses to work on the day off)?
Thanks!
Ravi
Ravi,
Yes, generally it works that way. You can only be assigned a trip that is as many days as you are on reserve for, or less. There are certain instances where they can extend you out longer, but it is not common.

Ravi,
Chris is dead on. I just want to add this is one of the things we mean when we talk about contractual work rules. Some will outright state you cannot be extended and others are far more liberal. Many airlines have guaranteed days off that can’t be touched, while others don’t and allow the company to move them if they choose.
This one of the many reasons why contracts are much more than pay rates.

Ravi,
My airline we can also be worked into our OFF days. The company gives us the option to choose if we want to be paid at 150% or to choose which days following the trip we want our OFF days to be.
