I have heard that you have to retire from an airline after the age of 60. After you retire can you still fly as a hobby or can you no longer fly at all?
Donovan,
The mandatory retirement age used to be 60, now it is 65. Yes, you can still fly for fun after that point, you just can’t fly airliners.
Chris
Donovan,
Not only can you still fly recreationally after 65 (not 60), you can still fly professionally. Just not as Chris said for an airline.
Adam
What other jobs can you do where you fly a plane if not for an airline. Do you mean going from an airline to being a crop duster?
Donovan,
I was talking more like corporate flying G5s and Globals around the world but if crop dusting is your thing then sure, dust away.
Adam
Donovan,
We mean any non part 121 flying job. Crop dusting, flight instructing, banner towing, corporate pilot, jump pilot, cargo, etc.
Tory
Corporate pilot, crop dusting, some tour operators, flight instructing and air ambulance come to mind.
Tory,
You said cargo. Does FedEx and UPS count or were you meaning smaller companies?
Mike,
He meant smaller. FedEx and UPS are both “airlines” with age 65 retirement.
Adam
He means smaller companies. FedEx and UPS pilots have the same age restrictions as airline pilots.
Michael,
Ameriflight, and smaller cargo companies that fly Cessna Caravans come to mind.
