Question about upgrades and seniority. You read about some companies like Mesa who fly pilots to death and FO’s possibly hitting 1000hrs in a year. Then you hear about how they are upgrading immediately. Then I look at the seniority list on pilot forums and see the most junior captain hired is 2016? Does that mean that a FO hasn’t upgraded since 2016? Does that mean these FO’s are just there accumulating hours waiting to upgrade. Then I look at the numbers for SkyWest and it says most senior captain at said base is 2015. Does that mean a FO hasn’t upgrades to captain since 2015? Just wondering if the normal upgrade time to captain at regionals is commonly 4-5 years in most instances?
Anthony,
If it states the most junior Capt was hired in 2016 that means the most junior Capt was HIRED in 2016, 3 years ago. It doesn’t tell you when they upgraded but since you can assume it probably wasn’t within the first year, that means they did in 2 to 3 years which is pretty good.
Similar for SkyWest. If their most senior Capt was hired in 2015 that means people are getting out of there in 4-5 yrs otherwise they’d be more senior Capts who were hired earlier. Make sense?

Thanks for clearing that up Adam. Still somewhat confused, but just thought I’d see what airlines are upgrading at what rates.
