Timeline of Piloting

I’m a high school junior and was wondering how my timing would work coming out of college with an aviation degree. I know it’s not always recommended but this is likely what I’m going to do. Once graduating college, how long do most pilots spend at regionals before moving up to majors? And once at majors, how long does it usually take to build up seniority to get most desired bids?
Thank you, Hunter

Hunter,

First off after you graduate you’ll still need to build the required 1500hrs to get hired by a Regional and that will take you a year or two. Getting from a Regional to a Major depends on many factors, the average right now is 2-4yrs but it could take longer. Particularly if/when hiring slows as the airlines catch up on staffing.

After that how quickly you build seniority can vary considerably based on your airplane, base, seat and YOUR priorities.
