Congratulations on completing your MEI! I remember holding that final temporary paper certificate like it was my baby. One of the coolest feelings, hopefully you got some pictures in front of the Seminole, would love to see one! You may check for your Extranet in the morning for the next couple of days, I did that - itās bittersweet. Congratulations again Robert! Itās been a fun journey reading about your experiences.
Best of luck going forward, please keep us posted later on how things are.
Robert,
Congrats on your program completion! You still completed a very challenging program with great success. One bust wonāt hurt you.
Thatās awesome you already have a job lined up. Way to get at it. Please keep us updated on your career!
Like you said, lesson learned with the MEI. It probably doesnāt make you feel any better but I didnāt pass my MEI on the first try either.
Letās focus on the good stuff! SO happy for you Robert! We appreciate you sharing your experiences with us along the way. Best of luck to you and your students.
This was a great read and very inspiring. I only just woke up and your journey has me pumped for the rest of my day! Congratulations and I wish you the best as a CFI!
I didnāt see you mention this in any of your posts, but did you complete your kmowledge tests prior to your start date? I know itās recommended, but I wanted to get your opinion on that since you just finished the program.
Thanks @LeonTA Iām glad it was helpful. I did complete all the written tests before I started. I actually posted my whole experience and approach to that in a different thread, if you want to take a look:
Hey all, thought Iād revive this thread for a quick update. My last post was back in June of '21, when Iād just completed my MEI at ATP Richmond. In the 8 months since then Iāve been instructing in Williamsburg, VA, and now have about 815 hours TT. I just received a conditional job offer with Republic through their cadet program, so Iāll be able to transition to FO Trainee with them as soon as I hit my 1500 hours. Iām super excited about that as Republic is probably my first choice, but Iām also part of the Skywest Pilot Pathway program (not a firm CJO but a guaranteed final interview), and may also apply to Endeavor and PSA as I get closer to my hours, just because itās a temperamental industry and who knows how things will look in 8-9 more months when Iām (hopefully) hitting my 1500 hours.
I really enjoy instructing. Iāve learned so much and have hopefully been able to pass that learning on to my students in increasingly better and more meaningful ways. Itās incredibly gratifying and humbling to see my former students whoāve earned their PPLs now taking their friends and family flying, knowing that every landing they execute and radio call they make started with me teaching them how to do it. The students definitely deserve the credit for their successesāI just hope I can help channel their hard work and abilities in the right way to achieve their goals. I also definitely donāt want to instruct forever. The mental exertion and focus required is real, and valuable, and I will give it my all every single flight as long as Iām an instructor, but Iām also excited about what the next chapter has in store!
Robert,
Sounds like you headed down the right path! Just a matter of time and youāll be hitting the right seat of a regional jet! Thanks for the update, keep them coming!
-Hannah
Thatās awesome, Robert! Youāre more than half way there!
Itās totally okay to know that you donāt want to be an instructor forever. I think most CFIās feel that way.
What I like most about this post is that it is obvious that you truly care. That says a lot about your character. Wanting the best for your students is what itās all about.
