Hi,
I’m trying to find out if you can be a Uber driver while you are doing the program. Because I’m thinking, how would you be able to feed and pay rent if you aren’t taking the loans for those stuff?
Also, could anyone describe how the schedule works from experience, what time to what time are the classes? I read somewhere that there are days off every week even though you could have class any day of the week. Thanks.
Short answer is it’s not recommended. ATPs program is highly accelerated compressing into months what takes years at other schools. The schedule is not fixed as you’ll have longer or shorter days depending on many factors plus weather often will affect when you fly on any given day. Weather’s dynamic and you need to be available and flexible.
Most people either save up money before hand or take out additional money on their loans to cover their living expenses.
Ultimately you can do what you want and no one cab stop you but know you’re investing a large amount of money into this program. Many find it challenging devoting all their time and energy with no distractions. If your work gets in the way and you bust a few checkrides that could seriously jeopardize your aviation career. You really need to give it some thought and prioritize.
I would really recommend against working while in the program. I understand the need to have some financial support, but there are other ways. Many students take out an extra stipend as part of their loan to help cover living expenses.
Now some people do work and some of those people do not have any issues, but I think it is one heck of a gamble to take with your training and career.
