Degree Requirement for Frontier/Avelo/Sun Country Direct partnership

Hi mentors,

I’m back with a question for the first time in just over 2 years - last time I asked something on here was prior to beginning training in 2020. Now working as 1/2 CFI + 1/2 TSS at LGB with a likely lead opportunity as soon as the position opens up. The TSS position was offered to me recently and while it is a lot of work on top of instructing, I enjoy all of it and am really happy with the path my career is on so far.
Feels good to look back on my training and realize that ATP worked for me, and helped me accomplish so much.

I’m becoming more and more interested in the possibility of going directly onto a 737 at 1,500 hours via the Frontier/Avelo/Sun Country Direct sponsorships, rather than the usual path of going to the regionals. Since you guys don’t get the “college degree” question enough, I’m going to ask it again :grinning:. With these partnerships directly through ATP, what is the likelihood of getting to one of these major (although ultra low-cost) airlines without a degree?

My plan has always been to work on a 4-year degree while at a regional, prior to applying at a major… so if these 737 partnerships are out of the question, I have no problem resorting back to that. Figured it’s worth a shot to see what you all think before I get too excited about it.

Thanks!

Following. I’m curious as well. I planned to finish bachelor once at a regionals, so interesting question.

TJ,

My understanding is that a degree is not required for these programs. Do keep in mind though that these programs cane competitive and you might very well end up at a regional, going the traditional route.

But no, most of the Frontiers, Spirit, etc do not require degrees.

TJ,

I’d say the chances are excellent but let’s be clear, they’re LCCs and not Major airlines. That said I believe Breeze wants a degree.
