Hello there
I am here again asking some more questions. I am interested in becoming a regional commercial pilot but I am kinda concerned about the pilots family. When you become a pilot, do you stay away from you wife and children for a long time? Or do you get lots of time to see them?
Amear,
I actually feel that I see my wife and kids more than most parents do. While we are on the road a lot, pilots also have a fair amount of time off. Take a look at our schedules section as we all post our schedules there.
Chris
Amear,
The short answer is you can count on being away about half the month. The nice part is when your home it’s often for days at a time but the reverse is true as well.
Adam
Ok thank you.
My other questions is, do you make more regional or international. And do regional pilots work the same hours as international pilots?
Amear,
You really need to spend some time in the FAQ section: What Do Pilots Really Earn?
Ok.
Sorry I will try to spend some more time in the FAQ section
Amear,
I just want to take a second and explain something to you. It’s fantastic that your 16 and VERY enthusiastic about becoming a pilot. We’re here to answer and all questions people may have on the subject. That said we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that you obviously have a computer with internet access and therefore literally have the knowledge of the entire planet at your fingertips. If/when you get to the airlines you’ll discover that while they will provide you with all the information you need to be successful, they will not spoon feed it to you. You’ll have a handful of systems classes for example that will go over the essential material but the bulk of it will be yours to read, understand and absorb on your own.
Right now most people are hiding in their houses with not much to do. This would be a great time for you to explore and READ. Visit the FAQ section, visit ATPs website, just start going through this forum looking for interesting topics. While we all love the immediate gratification of asking a question and getting it answered, you’ll gain so much more exploring on your own. In fact I promise if you do, you’ll get answers to questions you didn’t even know you had and it’ll get you in the right mindset for your future aviation training. Then feel free to come back for clarifications and we can have some good conversation. Cool?
Adam
