I just got out of the gym and this question came to my mind. Is going to the gym any harder for airline pilots? Or is it the pretty much the same for anyone who has the motivation and discipline to workout. I assume that airline pilots don’t have access to a full gym and spend much of their workouts in hotel gyms or even simple exercises such as pushups, crunches, lunges, etc., in their hotel rooms. I just want to see of this assumption is true or not.
P.S. Finally got into the 300s on deadlifts with my max being 315
As you said, IF you have the motivation and the discipline to without. First off you’re generally only gone half the month so that half is pretty normal. As for when you’re working many hotels have really nice really well equipped gyms. The one’s that don’t often have an agreement with a “real” gym nearby and will sometimes have free or reduced rate day passes. I’ve honestly never found it to be a problem.
Factor in many cities have great hikes or bike paths, if you do jiujitsu every dojo I know always welcomes visitors to roll, there are Crossfits everywhere, etc etc.
The key again is you’ve got to be motivated because it’s just as easy to say “I hear KC has the best BBQ in the country, maybe I’ll just spend the day eating!”.
I find that I spend much more time working out at work than I do at home. Perhaps it is boredom, but I find that going to the hotel gym is a great way to burn time on an overnight. At home I tend to get busy with kids and life, but at work I pretty much go to the gym and answer questions for this website
I agree with all of the above. I may not get the best workout when I’m traveling, but at least it’s something. On occasion I do get lucky when our hotel happens to be near a gym I have a membership to.
Thanks for the clarification guys. I go to Anytime Fitness and they have locations everywhere so when I travel my luck is usually good when it comes to having a gym in the area. But there are times like this past Thanksgiving for example where I didn’t go to the gym for a solid week but that’s when I depend on my metabolism that is faster than the speed of light
