Flying as Pilot VS Passenger

I’ve been wondering this for a while now:
with flying being 90% automated, does flying as a pilot feel just as boring as flying as a passenger sometimes? Flying to vacation destinations isn’t the most fun thing in the world to me so I wonder how I would hold up with it being my CAREER.

I know there is a lot to do before a flight, at the beginning of a flight and end of a flight, but for the most part, does it feel the same as flying as a passenger? Or is it completely different from a pilots perspective?

Put in another way, could you fly as much as a passenger as you do as a pilot and be content about it? Or would flying that much as a passenger drive you crazy?

Kyle,

Obviously everyone is different and while there’s plenty to do throughout the flight honestly I have been getting a little bored lately doing the long haul stuff. I have plenty of friends who love it and think I’m crazy because I’m going back to the narrow body next month in favor of MUCH shorter flight. It’s really up to you what you’ll enjoy. Fortunately most airlines have a mix and once you gain some seniority you can bid for whatever you like.
