I appreciate all the great feedback you provide on a number of different topics. I am 38 and currently working toward a special issuance 1st class medical for a high BAC >.2 DUI I received in 2005. I do not drink anymore and am following all steps my Himms AME is giving me. From what i understand in time the FAA may drop the special issuance as long as you are continuing to do well with everything they assign you. Once I receive this I plan on taking care of my PPL right away and move down south to a Texas location. I am realistic about my expectations but if airlines do not work out for me is there other job opportunities that I can apply my ATP knowledge?
Thanks, Eric
If in fact all you have on your record is the one DUI from 13yrs ago you’ll have no problems getting hired by a Regional and can have a very nice career there. The Majors may or may not be a problem but that’s the case for almost any pilot. There are of course many flying jobs in the private and corporate sectors. Like anything else it requires some research and leg work when the time comes.
Getting hired at the regionals will not be an issue. The majors may or not be a challenge. By then a lot of time will have passed, but often times a computer is the one doing the initial sorting of applications and something like a DUI is a real easy way to start thinning the pile. There are of course other jobs like corporate ones that you could use your skills at.
Thanks Chris and Adam. The major airlines would be a dream come true but I would definently be happy with the regionals. Good to see that there are other options out there too. Thanks for your time and I look forward to my training possibly in Austin later this year.
