Joining the Airlines

Hello I currently work with one of the major in a different department. I am currently finishing up my flight training. My main question is when I get to 1,500hrs plus will I have a good chance getting hired at the regional carrier of the major airline I currently work for with out a college degree? I was told I may have a good shot because I have my foot in the door. Any feedback will help thank you.

Matt,

The regionals do not require college degrees, so you should not have any issues.

Thank you Chris, I plan on getting a four year degree after my flight training. But if I we’re to get hired at the regional carrier of the major airline I work for currently in order to get upgraded to the mainline I would need a four year degree right?

Most majors require a 4 year degree.

Matt,

The Regionals SUPPORT the Majors they fly for and some may even be owned and offer flow-thru’s but there is no “Upgrade” to a Major. It’s a different airline with a different pilot group, mgmt. and seniority list. In most cases you’ll need to interview for the Major and as was said the Majors prefer college degrees.

Matt,

Getting hired at the regional of the major you work for really won’t matter much to your career progression. Unless you have some burning desire to work at that particular airline, I would focus on getting to the regional that best fits your situation.

Unless the regional is one of the AA ones that has a flow through program, you will need a four year degree for the majors.

Chris

Thank you guys for the input very help helpful :grinning:
