Layover

Cool little topic I thought of. What is everyone’s favorite layover spot that you’ve been throughout your career?

Steven,

I have a new one! As a coffee fanatic, Madison, Wisconsin recently came back to our overnights. While cities like Traverse City (MI), Toronto (CAN), Montreal (CAN), Fort Wayne (IN) still rank in my top 5, Madison is a very active city I come to find out. We also stay pretty close to downtown so we can venture around if we have a decent overnight.

Steven,

Internationally, I would have to say that Dublin was always one of my favorites. It is a nice city, the people are friendly, and there is some great hiking nearby. I also enjoyed Stockholm and Rome.

Domestically, I have always been fond of Salt Lake City, for the same reasons as Dublin. Rounding out the top of the list is San Francisco and Phoenix.

That being said, I can just about always find something fun or interesting to do in just about every city I have gone to. Sometimes you need to look a bit harder than in other places, but every city has its charm. Except Newark.

SLC needs to open up their base to more airlines. Once I get to that point I’d love for them to be my base.

Steven,

I am sure SLC would love to have more airlines based there, but that is up to the airlines and not the airport.

Chris

Steven,

Lots of factors go into airlines and bases, as well as approval from the government, and route structures. To my knowledge, airlines bid years out for routes and gates. I can’t think of the airports recently in the news about selling/buying new gates at airports, but there were a few changes at airports like LGA.

Steven,

My favorite layovers are STT (St. Thomas, USVI) in the Caribbean, BTV (Burlington, VT) in the Northeast, SFO (San Francisco, CA) and YVR (Vancouver, Canada) out West. All these places have beautiful scenery, active communities and tons to do when the weather is cooperating!

Any Sint Maarten’s yet?

Brady

I’d say that Sint Maarten was one of the more memorable layovers for me, but for me any trips to the islands are always offset by the atrocious experience of getting in and out of there :joy:

My favorite layovers are SJU, COS, SAN, and MHT. To be honest, my criteria for a good layover are more centered on how clean and convenient the hotel is. While MHT may not be the most “scenic” stay location, they do have a grocery store nearby that sells cheap lobsters (steamed and cracked) and gives us an airline discount. So that there is a good overnight to me…
