Excitement

This is more for Adam and Chris. Do you still feel excitement to get up and go to work? I’ve had a job (F22 avionics technician) where for about a year I was happy to go to work every day, but then I wasn’t really excited to go to work and fix the jet. I didn’t hate my job, still got challenged mentally, but I didn’t feel excited about going anymore and was wondering if the excitement fades over time being an airline pilot.

Joseph,

Yes and no. Like any job, there are days when I would really rather be home, but generally speaking I really enjoy my job. One thing that keeps me engaged is going to my favorite cities. I have my routines in each city and occasionally some people I know in different places that help make trips more enjoyable. Also, each flight brings with it its own challenges, which helps keep things interesting.

Thank you Chris, what are some of your favorite cities to fly to?

Great question Joseph,

First and foremost I LOVE my job. However, about 2.5yrs ago I had transitioned to the Airbus flying TransPac where we do minimum actual flying and a whole lot of sitting. I found myself getting more and more bored and looking less and less forward to my trips. It actually got so bad that I started bidding to do Sim Crewing (which is generally very unpopular) just to get more engaged. Fortunately Hawaiian also has it’s interisland operation. I bid back to the 717 and again I’m a happy guy and yes I’m excited and look forward to go to work everyday.

I am a huge fan of DUB, FCO, MEX, SAN, SFO and SLC.

Thank you Adam. So that’s short flights where you’re home every night, right?

Thank you Chris. It’s my goal to do international flying. Have you done any flying to Asia?

Yup. Home every night (usually by lunch) and on the beach every afternoon. Plus I often spend entire days hand flying. Life is good

Adam

How many flights do you normally do in a day Adam?

Obviously it varies but contractually 8 is the most. I usually do 5-6 but tomorrow I only have 2. That’s approx. 1hr of flying for 4:10 pay. That’s my favorite but it doesn’t happen often!

Internationally, where all does Hawaiian fly to?

Thank you Adam.

Joseph,

I have flown to Hong Kong twice. I never left the airport either time.
