Hi, I’m wondering if the FAA mandates minimum overnight rest times for pilots whether they work for a major, regional, or even smaller carrier (eg. Boutique)?
Thanks!
Ravi,
All airlines operate under Federal rules that mandate overnights length. The rules due vary from passenger airlines, to cargo airlines, but generally 10 hours is the minimum for most overnights.

Ravi,
The FAR dictates the rules the aviation world must follow. There a different rules for part 121 (airlines) vs. Part 135 (charter/cargo/corporate), etc. Part 135 mandates a minimum of 10 hours rest as well.

Ravi,
Here’s something you might find interesting. When it comes to Part 121 Ops (basically all your airlines), we are governed by Part 117 Flight and Duty Limitations. This is the handy dandy Table B which gives you you Duty limits based on the time of day you start and number of legs per day.
