If I’m hoping to get to a legacy carrier, would my app look good with no PIC time but it’s all on an A320 (I presume upgrade times are slower than at a regional)? Or does the time being on a mainline jet make up for it?

If you look at some of the Major’s preferred or competitive minimums they actually list Turbine PIC time. That means they want to see some Capt time. Why? Flying a bigger, heavier plane doesn’t make you a better pilot, being a Capt does.

That is a question that we do not know the answer to yet. On some level, flying a jet is the same, regardless of the size. The decision making that comes with being a Captain is often what the majors are looking for. Some of the discount carriers do have relatively quick upgrade times, so I would not discount them without taking a look first.
