Cargo and some part 135 corporate/charter companies tend to be the employers with longer than normal blocks of days away from home. They have 7/8 day trips or block scheduling that can be 8 days on/6 days off, 15 days on/13 days off, etc. A typical airline pilot schedule is 3/4 day trips with 2 days off.
I definitely wanted to fly for cargo or small hauls. I donāt know how everything works yet but I donāt know if this is possible or not if some pilots depending on their jobs, go home after certain shipments or departures
Very, very few pilots spend all of their nights at home. If you want to be a pilot, you need to get used to being on the road approximately half the month.
I think itās safe to say most pilots would like to be home every night. Thing is weāre not. Thereās a reason we get paid what we get paid and part of that is the sacrifice we make being away from our family.
Iām extremely fortunate as Iām finally in a position where I am home every night but thatās come after many years at the job building seniority and LONG after my children have grown.
Long/short bus drivers are home every night, pilots are not.
What is a 8/6 schedule? I am trying to understand how the schedule works for pilots. Do you work 8 days in that week meaning you are constantly flying, staying at hotels and then after the 8th day you return home for 6 days?
Thank you guys for your answers. I definitely want to become a pilot I just didnāt know if it was possible or not for certain jobs that you return home after your shift or not due to having two kids.
