Schooling Questions from a 23 y/o

Hello everybody - I am 23 and already sick of the 8-5 life. Always wanted to be a pilot but couldn’t fit school into my lifestyle. Now that I am able to I am looking to commit and get started ASAP, looking for some help with a couple questions!

  • Does ATP require an associate’s degree before admission? I spent 5 years working in hospitality so obviously my work experience is not relevant.
  • If yes, what should I go to school and get an associate’s for? Does it have to be aviation related or will ATP accept me with any associate’s degree? I’d prefer to do some/most schooling online so I can continue to work part time until I am able to get into ATP.

The one plus side of me starting late is that I do have my current job as a backup - due to my age I do not want to get a bachelor’s now and will go ahead and get that later on once I am with a regional.

TJ,

No. ATP accepts applicants with equivalent work experience. https://atpflightschool.com/airline-career-pilot-program/admission-prerequisites.html

Tory

Would my 7 years of work experience in a completely unrelated field be good enough to be accepted?

Yes

Perfect. Had some trouble clarifying. This takes a lot of weight off my shoulders! Thank you!
