The pay without a four year degree

Hello, I’m 21 and I was wondering what would be an estimate hourly pay for a pilot without a four year college degree but have a certificate in Electonics or a certificate in something else.

Im Sharvens by the way :handshake:.

Pilot pay rates are the same regardless of education level. That being said, it is very difficult to get hired on at a major without having a four year degree. You can easily look up pilot pay rates at www.airlinepilotcentral.com

Alright sir thank you and much appreciation for the quick response.

Sharvens,

As Chris stated, pilot pay rates don’t vary based on your education, PROVIDED you can get the job. Regional airlines do not require a degree and the current pay starts at about $50-60K (including bonuses) and tops out in the $80-90k range. The difference is getting to a Major. Major airlines start at around $80k and senior Capts can make over $300k HOWEVER the Major airlines prefer a 4yr degree and many pilots find it difficult to get hired without one.

Do you think the projected pilot shortage will force the major airlines to relax the preference for 4 year degrees? I currently have an associates but am up in the air (pun intended) on pursuing my bachelors.

Chris,

No, I do not see anything changing in regards to the degree. There are so many pilots out there that do have degrees, that there is simply no reason for the airlines to relax their requirements.

Chris

Chris,

Do I think it will happen? No. Is it possible? Sure. That said I’d hate to be the guy watching ALL my fellow pilots getting hired while I’m stuck waiting for them to lower the bar. But that’s me.
